Abstract

Because of the increasing use of aluminum, so that aluminum waste is also increasing, one of the examples is scrap aluminum waste from manufacturing waste. The purpose of research to reuse the scrap waste by recycling that used the indirect smelting method, which is by using an indirect combustion system which the scrap aluminum was melted in a crucible furnacewith a temperature about 750OC until melted and then it was molded into a self-made closed mold from the same material as the casting results. Then the test sample was given a heat treatment, which was the age hardening stage that began with the solution heat treatment at a temperature of 540 OC for 2 hours in the furnace then it was continued with quenching on the water for 15 seconds and ended with the stages of artificial aging at a temperature of 175 OC with a variation of holding time for 2, 3, and 4 hours. After that, it was conducted mechanical properties testing such as the tests of hardness, tensile, and impact to be analyzed for the changes that had occurred. Based on the the results of composition testing, the scrap aluminum that used which was the combination of Al-Cu aluminum with the Al content as much as 98,73% and Cu as much as 0,491%. Based on the tests could be seenthat the value of hardnes and tensile strength were inversely proportional to the value of the impact price which the value of hardness and tensile strength had increased after being given heat treatment T6 while the value of impact price had decreased. The highest value of hardness and tensile strength were found in the sample which was treated for 4 hours as much as 52.27 BHN and 167.49 MPa. while the lowest impact value was found in the test sample which wastreated for 4 hours as much as 0.07133 J/mm².
