Abstract
Background: Febrile seizure is a seizure that occurs when body temperature (rectal temperature 38°C) is increased by extra cranial process. The incidence of febrile is still quite high but there are no data on the characteristics of febrile seizures in general. Some factors such as age and gender helped shape the pattem of febrile seizures. Clinical manifestations includes frequency of seizures, seizure characteristics, duration of seizures, and the type of seizures. The objective of this research was to know the manifestation of patients with febrile seizure. Method: This study presents the percentage distribution of the data obtained in patients using medical records of febrile seizures. Study sample was patients with febrile seizures who were hospitalized in RSMH Palembang since January 2011 to June 2011. Samples that meet the inclusion criteria and with complete data are sampled in this research. Variables which were studied are age, gender, classification of febrile seizures, and clinical manifestations. The data obtained and presented in table form in the analysis was performed with Chi-square to examine the relationship between clinical manifestations and febrile seizures, and then explained in the narrative form. Results: From the results of the study there were 79 children who became sampel, number of incidence of febrile seizures during the period January 2011 and June 2011 of patients with febrile seizures aged < 3 years old there were 63 children (79.7%) and 27 children (20.3%) patients with febrile seizures aged > 3 year old. A total of 79 patients 52 children (65.8%) were male and 27 children (34.2%) are women. From 79 children who experienced febrile seizures, 29 children (36.7%) had simple febrile seizures and 50 children (63.3%) who experienced complex febrile seizures. (P=0.005), which was <0.05 thus the H1 accepted. There was a relationship between the classification of seizures and the ffequency of seizures fever. Following (P= 0.005), which was <0.05 thus the H1 accepted. There was a relationship between the classification of seizures and duration of seizure. According to the 2x2 table, the value of nothing expected <5 then the continuity correction in the value was (P= 0.024), the <0.05 then the H1 accepted. There relationship between the classification of seizures and the nature of febrile seizures. Conclusion: It can be concluded that febrile seizures was most common in boys from age < 3 years. Simple febrile seizure, patients experiencing seizures of 1 time in 24 hours, which was less than 15 minutes and general nature.
