Abstract
Snakehead fish (Channa striata), one of fish species is economically in South Sumatera Province. This fish is raw material making food traditional in South Sumatera generally and Palembang city specially like empek-empek, laksan, tekwan, kerupuk-kemplang and others. During the time produce snakehead fish only coming from natural haul. The culture of this fish not yet because no availability technology of snakeheadfish culture. Research was conducted in Juli-Nopember 2005. The purpose of this research is to know gonad maturity level of snakeheadfish. research done by sampling in kelekar river floodplain area indralaya, ogan ilir. laboratory observation of sample done in aquaculture laboratory of agriculture faculty sriwijaya university. amount of obtained by fish sample is 25 fish, consist of 11 female fish and 14 male fish. male fish body is slimer than female fish. male fish body weight is 200-760 gram, and female fish body weight is 100-900 gram. from result of perception, gonad maturity level of snakehead fish is pregnant phase.
