Abstract

Planning and designing earthquake resistant reinforced concrete building in Indonesia are regulated in SNI 1726 – 2012 and SNI 2847 – 2015. According to both regulation, earthquake resistant building has dedicated concrete reinforcement detailing and lateral reinforcement such as Moment Resisting Frame and Structural Wall System. Palembang Tourism Polytechnic Rectorate Building have 5 stories that are planned and designed with single system Special Moment Resisting Frame with column dimension each floor 50 x 50 cm and main beam 40 x70 cm. An alternate design for the building is planned and designed with dual system which is Moment Resisting Frame and Structural Wall System, column dimension are redesigned from each stories; 50 x 50 cm, 40 x 40 cm, 40 x 40 cm, 35 x 35 cm and 35 x 35 cm , and the thickness of the shear wall is 30 cm. The main goal of the alternate design is to compare each model performance and total structural element volume. Structural performance analysis is done by using SAP 2000 v.14. The result of the structural performance analysis on the alternate design indicate that the alternate design model meets the ultimate inter story drift ratio which is 1 % of the story height. The result of the structural element volume analysis indicates that the existing design has 1904,6016 m3 of total volume and on the other hand the alternate design has 1559,1676 m3 of total volume, the total volume difference is 345,43 m3 and the percentage difference are 18,16 %. The alternate design models with column dimension variation and shear walls addition results a safe and economical design.
