Abstract

In this study ZrSO4-SiO2 catalyst with EDTA template was used as a catalyst which was synthesized by calcination method. The preparation of sulphated zirconium impregnated silica catalyst was carried out at various temperatures, such as 400°, 500°, 600°, 700° and 800°C. This study aims to determine how the temperature of the catalyst ZrSO4-SiO2 EDTA template influences. The XRD results on the ZrSO4-SiO2 catalyst variation 3 600°C, at an angle of 22.46° have an amorphous shape characterized by a widened peak. While at 400° and 800°C, several peaks appeared at an angle of 2θ, namely 22.30°, with a sharp peak with high intensity at an angle of 21.989°C indicating that there is a cristobalite structure. The results of the characterization of the catalyst using FT-IR at wave numbers 3443.25 cm-1, 3425.06 cm-1 and 3411.27 cm-1 showed the stretching vibration of –OH groups from Si-OH. The results of the GC-MS analysis showed that the selectivity of the ZrSO4-SiO2 catalyst was highest at 800°C with a value of 77.7%. Meanwhile, the highest conversion value was found at 400°C with a value of 44.45% and the ZrSO4-SiO2 catalyst at 800°C gave the highest yield value of 34.7%.
