Abstract
Anemia is a condition where the number of red blood cells in the blood is lower than the normal value. One of the factors that cause anemia is the low consumption of iron such as blood supplement tablets. According to the Health Belief Model (HBM) theory, health behavior is determined by individual beliefs about disease and how to prevent it. This study aims to determine the relationship between perception and compliance behavior of blood supplement tablets consumption among adolescent girls at SMAN 1 Purbolinggo. Analytic observational research using quantitative methods with a cross sectional approach. The sample amounted to 152 adolescent girls. Simple random sampling technique. The results of statistical tests of perceived vulnerability were positive (53.9%), positive seriousness (60.5%), positive benefits (76.3%), positive barriers (50.0%), and compliant consumption of blood supplement tablets (28.3%). The results of bivariate analysis showed that the variables of perceived vulnerability and barriers had an effect on the behavior of adherence to the consumption of blood supplement tablets with a p value <0.05. While the variables of perceived seriousness and benefits did not affect the compliance behavior of blood supplement tablets consumption. The final result of multivariate analysis of the most dominant variable the compliance behavior of TTD consumption is the variable of perceived barriers with p value = 0.001. It can be concluded that the perception of barriers is the most influential variable on the behavior of adherence to the consumption of blood supplement tablets after being controlled by the perception of vulnerability variable. The suggestion of this study is that schools are expected to conduct monitoring and counseling to adolescent girls by involving health workers and monitoring the consumption of blood supplement tablets regularly to prevent anemia in adolescent girls.
