Abstract

Stunting is the impaired growth and development that children experience from poor nutrition, repeated infection, and inadequate psychosocial stimulation. Children are defined as stunted if their height <-2SD. Stunting is a description of chronic malnutrition in the growth and development of toddlers. Many factors can cause stunting in toddler, such as the characteristics of toodler and other factors, such as the level of food intake consumed and the application of the level of behavior in the family. The case of stunting in Indonesia is 19.3% who experienced short nutritional status and 18% of them were very short nutritional status, whilein the Province of South Sumatra as many as (14.9%) toddlers were short and (7.5%) very short toddlers, while in the Penyandingan Village of (16.7%) short toddlers and very short toddlers. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between food intake and nutrient-conscious families for the case of stunting. The type of this study was analytic research and used a Cross Sectional design with a total sample of 56 people. The sampling technique was simple random sampling that carried out in the Penyandingan Village of Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. The data was presented in the tables and narratives form to interpret the data. Data analysis used Chi-Square test and Fisher Exact test. The results of the bivariate analysis that have no any relation to the case of stunting is energy intake P = 0.206 (PR = 1,500; (CI) 95% = 0.795-2,832), calcium intake P = 0,085 (PR = 2,222 (CI) 95% = 0,776-6,363), and the behavior of the nutrition conscious families P = 0.899 (PR = 0.880 (CI) 95% = 0.470-1.645). while that have relation to the case of stunting were protein intake P = 0.003 (PR = 2.750 (CI) 95% = 1.585-4.7771), phosphorus intake P = 0,003 (PR = 2,941 (CI) 95% = 1,999-4,328), zinc intake P = 0,017 (PR = 2,700 (CI) 95% = 1.168-6,239). Through this research, it isexpected that health officiers will carry out monitoring and counseling and learning activities regarding the nutritional status of toddler that given to parents of toddler so that the nutritional status of toddler is in accordance with appropriate nutritional status at their age.
