Abstract

This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity and the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of sembung rambat leaves extract (Mikania micrantha Kunth) against Propionibacterium acnes. This study used an experimental method with a nonfactorial design that is a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The experiment consisted of 5 treatments and 5 replications with concentrations of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The parameters observed were the inhibitory zones formed around the well. The result were analyzed with One Way Anova and the Least Significant Difference (LSD). The results of data analysis showed that the sembung rambat leaves extract have a very significant effect on Propionibacterium acnes growth. The greatest inhibition at the concentration of 100% with an area of inhibition zone of 19.44 mm2. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) is at the concentration of 25%. The results of this study can be used as additional information on Basic Competence 3.7 and 4.7 which is the competency that must be supported on plant material, morphological characteristics, metagenesis, and its role in supporting life on earth that given to X grades on second semester. The results of this study will be applied in the form student’s worksheet.
