Abstract

Introduction. Eye infections can arise as a result of poorly contact lenses wear. This can be assessed from the knowledge, attitudes and actions of contact lens wearers regarding how to use, to care and to store the contact lenses. This study aims to analyze the relationship between contact lens wear and the incidence of eye infections in FK UNSRI students in the 2016-2019 class. Method. This study was an observational analytic study with a cross sectional study design. The sample of this research was FK UNSRI students in the 2016-2019 class who were selected through total sampling. A total of 84 people met the inclusion criteria. Data obtained from the results of a questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using logistic regression test. Result. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge of contact lens wear (p = 0,000, PR = 3,473), attitudes to contact lens wear (p = 0,000, PR = 4,317), and the action of the contact lenses wear (p = 0,000, PR = 3,590) with the incidence of eye infection. Conclusion. The attitude of wearing contact lenses is the most influencing factor in the occurrence of eye infections. Therefore contact lens wearers need to comply with, and carry out procedures for wearing contact lenses properly and according to the recommendations to reduce the risk of eye infections incidence due to contact lens wear.
