Abstract

Traffic accident is one of the leading causes of death in the world as a result of trauma or serious injury. A road traffic accident is an unexpected and unpredictable event that can happen anytime, anywhere, and to anyone. This study aimed to determine the description of corpse with head trauma in road traffic accident cases at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in the period of 2018 – 2019. This type of research wasobservational descriptive with a cross sectional research design. The research was conducted at the Forensic Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in the period of 2018 – 2019. The subject of the study was the VeR data for corpse with head trauma in road traffic accident cases that had met the inclusion criteria. From the total 50 VeR for corpse, there were 46 VeRfor corpse (92%) with head trauma in road traffic accident cases. The largest age group were the age group 12 – 25 years (41,3%). Male as many as 36 cases (78,3%) and female 10 cases (21,7%). The most common types of wounds were laceration wounds as many as 13 (28,3%). Most wound locations were found in the frontalis region as many as 31 cases (28,7%). There were 43 cases (93,5%) where the victim category was not known as road users, the rest were 2 motorcyclists (4,3%) and 1 pedestrian (2,2%). The majority of corpse with head trauma in road traffic accident cases were male, 12 – 25 year age group, had type of laceration wound, most found in the frontalis region, and many of them were not known to be road users when the road traffic accident occurred.
