Abstract

Kata Kunci : Hipertensi, Merkuri, Pertambangan Emas Kepustakaan : 111 (1990-2020) ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH FACULTY OF PUBLIC HEALTH SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY Thesis, December 11th 2020 Silmi Khairia The Relationship of Mercury (Hg) Content in Hair with Incidence of Hypertension in Gold Mining Workers in the Batanghari River Basin xvi + 82 Pages, 28 Tables, 7 Pictures, 9 Attachments ABSTRACT Gold mining in practice uses a lot of mercury in its processing. Mercury can enter the body through the dermal, inhalation and digestive tract. Mercury poisoning in the target cardiovascular system can lead to hypertension. One of the places that has gold mining is Muara Bulian District which has a gold mining point and uses mercury in its processing. This study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional approach with a sampling technique using stratified random sampling to determine the relationship between mercury content in hair, smoking habits, BMI, coffee consumption and stress with the incidence of hypertension. The sample in this study were 40 gold mining workers in the Batanghari river basin, who were active workers for at least 1 year, were willing to be respondents and did not take hypertension drugs. The mercury content in the hair was analyzed using the Inductively Coupled Plasma tool. Bivariate analysis using the T-test. The univariate results showed that respondents with mercury content exceeding TLV were 2.5%. The bivariate results showed that there was no relationship between the mercury content in hair and hypertension (95% CI = -0.23-0.86, p-value = 0.257), there was a relationship between smoking habits and hypertension (95% CI = 263.57 -432.67, p-value = 0.0001), there is no relationship between BMI and hypertension (95% CI = -2.27-1.80, p-value = 0.817), there is a relationship between coffee consumption and hypertension ( 95% CI = 0.45-2.60, p-value = 0.007) and there is a relationship between stress and hypertension (95% CI = 4.16-11.21, p-value = 0.0001). There is no relationship between mercury content in hair and BMI with the incidence of hypertension. Smoking habits, coffee consumption and stress are variables related to the incidence of hypertension. It is hoped that workers can use personal protective equipment while working, exercise regularly, consume enough water, vegetables and fruit, consume only 1-2 cups of coffee per day, replace cigarettes with mild types and carry out stress management independently.
