Abstract

This study aims to compare and study the impact of changes in some of the physical properties of peat soil as a result of fires that occurred in Kelurahan Kedaton, OKI Regency (case, 2019). This research will be carried out in April-July 2020 on burned peatlands in 2019 and not burned in Kedaton Village, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. Characterization of soil physical properties will be carried out in the Laboratory of Soil Conservation and Physics, Department of Soil, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The method used in this study is a semi-detailed survey method where on a land area of 1 ha there are 2 sample points. One sample point represents 5000 m2, in this study five sample points will be taken on burned peatlands and five sample points on unburned peatlands. So, we get 10 sample points. The results of this study indicate that the color of burned peat soil is darker than that of unburned peat, the maturity level of burnt peat soil has a maturity level that tends to be raw then, the weight of the burnt peat soil is lighter than that of unburned peat soils , The porosity of peat in burned soils was higher than that of unburned peat and the moisture content of burned and unburned soils had values that were not much different. The fundamental difference between burned and unburned peat tends to be in physical properties, namely in color, weight, and porosity, while the water content does not experience much difference.
