Abstract

The garbage problem is endless. Garbage has become a serious problem, especially in big cities, not only in Indonesia, but also throughout the world. The production of waste that continues to increase along with the increase in population, changes in consumption patterns and people's lifestyles has increased the amount of waste piles, types and diversity of waste characteristics. Trash cans are infrastructure available in every city park that is make it easier for park visitors to dispose of garbage. In this park there is a trash can based on the basic material of the waste, namely metal and non-metallic waste. So a smart trash can is made that can sort metal or non-metal waste. The hardware used is Proximity Metal Sensor, Infrared Sensor, Servo Motor, Ultrasonic Sensor, and ESP8266 Microcontroller. The capacity in the trash can can be monitored through the push-safer application, which will provide a notification when the trash can is full. In 15 experiments conducted on smart trash cans, the results were 12 successes and 3 failures with a failure percentage of 20%
