Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelagic country that is rich in mangrove ecosystems, the potential of A.marina and R. apiculata mangroves in producing secondary metabolites is very large which can have the potential as antifouling from natural ingredients. This study aims to determine the antifouling activity of methanol extracts of leaves, stems, roots of mangroves A.marina and R. apiculata and to determine the differences in antifouling activity of the two types of mangroves. This research was conducted from November 2021 to January 2022. Samples of leaves, stems, roots of A.marina and R. apiculata were taken from the Tanjung Api-Api port area. Antifouling activity testing was carried out in Sungsang waters, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra by using extract concentrations of 1000 ppm, 500 ppm, 100 ppm mixed with wood glue, then painting on wood media and testing for 28 days. Based on the results of research on mangroves A.marina and R. apiculata have antifouling activity in both types of mangroves, except for A.marina root extract at 100 ppm concentration and stem extract, R. apiculata root at 500 ppm and 100 ppm concentration. The results of the antifouling activity test showed that the methanol extract of leaves, stems, roots of mangrove A.marina and R. apiculata had antifouling compounds, where the potential of mangrove A.marina was much stronger in preventing attachment of biotafouling seen from the number of attachments in each type of extract and concentration. This was confirmed by the negative control results which contained the attachment of fouling biota from the Neritina violacea species.
