Abstract

Technological developments are in line with the development of learning media from conventional to digital, one example is e-books. E-books are media in the form of books that can be accessed via gadgets and function to motivate students' interest in learning, present information and achieve learning goals. This study aims to see the effectiveness of using e-books in Civics subjects on student learning outcomes. This study used a preexperimental design research in the form of a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population of this study were all students of class XI IPA SMA Negeri 22 Palembang with a sample of 42 students from class XI IPA 6 and were taken using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques used are tests, questionnaires, observation and documentation. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that the use of ebooks in Civics subjects is not effective in improving student learning outcomes. The results showed that the average difference between pretest and posttest was not too significant, namely 48.95 and 51.52. This is evident from the results of hypothesis testing using the Willcoxon test with the help of SPSS 22, the significant level value is 0.083, the value of 0.083 is greater than 0.005 (0.083˃0.005). So it was concluded that Ho was accepted and Ha was rejected, meaning that the use of e-books in Civics subjects was not effective in improving student learning outcomes. Factors that influence the insignificant increase in student learning outcomes are limited research time, researcher control over students and student motivation. So it is necessary to do further research by further researchers by paying attention to these factors.
