Abstract

properties and characteristics that are superior than the constituent materials. Filler is one important part of the composite which will increase the strength of a material. This study aims to analyze the physical and mechanical properties of composite rubber serap tires after given a booster of Silicon Carbide (SiC). The process of making this composite using the method of compression molding with a heating temperature of ± 160 ° C and the hold time for ±10 minutes. Volume fraetions used for powders used tires is 40%, 50%, 60% and 70%; 20% for the polyester resin, as well as 40%, 30%, 20%, 10% for SiC filler. In the specimens tested the density test to determine the value of the bulk density as its physical properties, while to observing the mechanical properties, the tensile and impaet was tested to obtain the value of tensile strength, tensile strain and impaet strength. From the test, the optimum results obtained in this study occurred at a ratio of 50% volume fraetion of rubber serap tires: 20% polyester: 30% SiC, the density values of 1,3013 gr/cm3 a tensile stress of 6,07 MPa, tensile strain of 11,1%) and the impaet strength of 0,0198 J/mm2. Keywords: erumb rubber, SiC, polyester, density test, tensile test, impaet test, compression molding
