Abstract

Counseling on balanced nutrition guidelines is an effective strategy to overcome nutrition problems in primary school children. Counseling is constrained because until now balanced nutrition guidelines have not been included in the curriculum of primary school education, including primary schools in Palembang City. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of puzzle media education on knowledge and attitudes about balanced nutrition in elementary school children in Palembang city. This research is quantitative in nature using quasi-experimental research design and pre-test post-test with control group design. The sample of this study amounted to 96 respondents consisting of 48 respondents in the experimental group given puzzle media education and 48 respondents in the control group given leaflet media education. Sampling was done by purposive sampling. The results showed that there was a difference in the average score of knowledge and attitudes before and after being given education with puzzle media (p-value <0.001). There is a difference in knowledge and attitude scores before and after being given education with leaflet media (p-value <0.001). There is a difference in the average knowledge score (p-value = 0.019) and attitude score (p-value = 0.023) in the experimental and control groups. The conclusion of this study is that puzzle educational media can be an alternative learning media in increasing knowledge of balanced nutrition and can be applied in everyday life. Through this research, it is hoped that puzzle media can be used as one of the media for nutrition education in elementary school children.
