Abstract

ABSTRACT Pregnant women's anemia is a common clinical issue that often occurs in the majority of women in developing countries due to iron deficiency, increasing the risk of morbidity and mortality during childbirth. This study aims to analyze food taboos and dietary diversity in relation to the incidence of anemia in pregnant women in the working area of Tanjung Batu Community Health Center. This research is a mixed-methods study with a cross-sectional research design. The sample used consisted of 112 individuals. Data analysis was conducted using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate methods. The results of the study showed that there was a relationship between household income (0.025), blood supplement tablet compliance (0.026), LILA size (<0.001) and food taboo (<0.001) with the incidence of anemia in pregnant women. Multivariate results show that the dominant factor influencing the occurrence of anemia in pregnant women is food taboo PR=9.386 (CI95%: 3.380-26.066). Interview results with pregnant women indicate that the types of food they avoid include those from animal protein sources such as beef, seafood, shrimp, and others, as well as fruits and vegetables such as pineapples, durians, and eggplants. Based on the research findings, there is a need for increased health promotion to raise awareness regarding misconceptions about food taboos conflicting with nutritional principles.
