Abstract

LAILA SYAFITRI Characteristics Of Eco-Straw Purun Tikus (Eleocharis dulcis) Using Edible Coating Based On Swamp Taro Starch (Cyrtosperma merkusii) and Chitosan (Supervised by Siti Hanggita and Sherly Ridhowati). This reseach examines the characteristics of eco-friendly straws (ecostraws) made from purun tikus (Eleocharis dulcis) plants, coated with an edible film based on swamp taro starch (Cyrtosperma merkusii) and chitosan. The objective is to determine the effects of using an edible coating made from swamp taro starch (Cyrstosperma merkusii) and chitosan on eco straw purun tikus. The research employs a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with four treatment levels and three replications. Observed parameters include diameter measurement, water resistance, weight loss, water vapor transmission rate, and beding strength test. The results indicate that the swamp taro starch edible coating significantly affects water resistance, weight loss, and water vapor transmission rate. Water absorption plays a crucial role in shaping the characteristics of purun tikus eco-straws. Higher concentrations of edible coating lead to thicker edible films. The decreasing weight loss and water vapor transmission rate suggest that the edible coating serves as an effective protective layer for the eco-straw. The best treatment is A3, the average difference in diameter calculation is 0.39 mm, the water resistance is 96%, the weight loss is 1,12%, the water vapor transmission rate is 0.0033%, and the three bending point test is 273.47 kgf/mm². Karakteristik Eco-Straw Purun Tikus (Eleocharis Dulcis) yang Menggunakan Edible Coating Berbasis Pati Talas Rawa (Cyrtosperma merkusii) dan Kitosan. Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang karakteristik sedotan ramah lingkungan (eco-straw) yang terbuat dari tanaman purun tikus (Eleocharis dulcis) dengan edible coating berbasis pati talas rawa (Cyrstosperma merkusii) dan kitosan. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan edible coating dari pati talas rawa (Cyrstosperma merkusii) dan kitosan pada Eco straw purun tikus. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan 4 taraf perlakuan dan 3 kali pengulangan. Parameter yang diamati meliputi perhitungan diameter, ketahanan air, susut bobot, laju transmisi uap air, dan uji kuat bending. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa edible coating dari pati talas rawa dan kitosan berpengaruh nyata terhadap ketahanan air, susut bobot, dan juga laju transmisi uap air. Daya serap air mempengaruhi karakteristik eco straw purun tikus. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi edible coating maka edible film yang terbentuk juga semakin tebal. Susut bobot dan laju transmisi uap air yang menurun menandakan bahwa karakteristik edible coating baik sebagai bahan pelapis eco straw purun tikus. Perlakuan terbaik terdapat pada perlakuan A3 yaitu pada perhitungan diameter diperoleh nilai rata-rata selisihnya yaitu 0,39 mm, pada ketahanan air diperoleh nilai 96%, pada analisis susut bobot diperoleh nilai 1,12%, pada laju transmisi uap air diperoleh nilai 0,0033% dan pada uji three bending point diperoleh nilai 273,47 kgf/mm2 .
