Abstract

Backgrounds: In this globalization era, the role of women is no longer only in terms of the household, but also in the world of work. In fact, some women are also involved in jobs that were previously only done by men. That resulted, they had to divide their time and responsibilities between work and also as a housewife, unlike housewives who could focus their work on caring for children and husband. Both housewives and career women, have their own problems which, if not addressed immediately, can eventually lead to depression. Purpose: This study aims to determine the Comparison of Depression Rates between Housewives and Career Women in Sukajaya Village, Sukarami District, Palembang City. Methods: This type of research is a cross-sectional study with chi-square analysis. This research was conducted in the Puri Impian II Complex and Nuansa Dago, Sukajaya Sub-District, Sukarami District, Palembang City. The sampling technique used in this study was Multi Stage Random Sampling, which took 106 samples, where the sample was divided into 2 groups, namely the group of housewives and groups of career women who were domiciled in the Puri Impian II Complex and Nuansa Dago, Sukajaya Village, Sukarami District, Palembang City. Results: From the research results obtained in the group of housewives, the most age is 31-40 years, namely 22 people (41.5%), the highest level of education is high school / equivalent, which is 29 people (54.7%). Whereas in the career women group, the most age group was also 31-40 years old with 32 people (60.4%) and the highest level of education was D-IV / S-I with 25 people (47.2%). In this study it was also found that the highest level of depression in housewives was major depression and in career women was minimal depression. There was no significant difference in the level of depression between housewives and career women (p value = 0.815) Conclusion: There is no difference in the level of depression between housewives and career women Keywords: Depression Stages, Housewives, Career Women
