Abstract

The last product of igniting the feed in the rumen is Volatile Fatty Acid (VFA) with a side product in the form of Methane Gas (CH4). Volatile fatty acids (VFA) are a source of energy needed by ruminants, and methane is a wasted energy potential. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of addition of ruminofrass NPN on partial VFA concentrations and calculation of methane gas from elephant grass in situ digestibility. This research was conducted from October to December at the Animal Feed and Nutrition Laboratory, Department of Animal Husbandry Technology and Industry, Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya. This study used the T-Test Analysis method with 2 different treatments and incubation times of 0, 6, 12, 24, and 48 hours. The treatment consisted of P0 (Elephant Grass) and P1 (Elephant Grass + NPN Ruminofrass). Parameters observed were partial VFA concentration (mM), methane concentration calculation (ppm), and methane concentration per gram of digestible dry matter (ppm/g DM). The results showed that the partial VFA concentration parameters were significantly different, the calculated methane concentrations were significantly different, and the methane concentrations per gram of digested dry matter were all significantly different (P<0.05). Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that elephant grass with the addition of NPN ruminofrass rumen fluid in situ inoculum increased partial VFA concentrations and could reduce methane concentrations per gram of digested dry matter and had not been able to reduce emissions calculated methane gas concentrations. Keywords: Dry Matter Digestibility , Elephant Grass, In Situ, Methane, NPN, Partial of VFA, Ruminofras.
