Abstract

Poor nutritional status is a condition where a person does not have the nutrients needed by the body due to deficiency or wrong in choosing food intake. Toddlers aged 24-59 months have the risk of underweight nutritional status because at 24- 59 months is a period of rapid growth and brain development, so toddlers in this period require optimal nutrient intake with better nutritional quality and in accordance with their age. The purpose of this study was to determine the analysis of the factors that influence underweight nutritional status in children aged 24-59 months in the SP Padang Public Health Center. The study design used in this study was cross sectional. This study used primary data taken at SP Padang Puskesmas with a sample of 42 toddlers aged 24-59 months with a sampling technique using Simple Random Sampling. The prevalence of toddlers experiencing underweight status showed 47.6% of toddlers aged 24-59 months. The results of the bivariate analysis of this study showed that there was a relationship between education (p-value = 0.005), economic status (p-value = 0.029), knowledge (p-value = 0.019), feeding patterns (p-value = 0.012), energy needs (p-value = 0.023), protein requirements (p-value = 0.012), carbohydrate requirements (p-value = 0.005), and fat requirements (p- value = 0.029) with under five nutritional status. While there was no relationship between work status (p-value = 0.477) and malnutrition status in the Work Area of SP Padang Health Center. Based on bivariate results, there is a relationship between maternal characteristics, knowledge, feeding patterns and nutrient intake with the nutritional status of children under five. Therefore it is recommended for SP Padang Puskesmas to coordinate with the Health Office, Village Midwives and Village Cadres in the local area to carry out the Program through counseling on diverse, nutritious and balanced food.
