Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out how zakat management and programs carried out by Zakat Management Organizations in South Sumatra in alleviating poverty and community welfare, especially those in South Sumatra. Zakat management organizations in this study consist of the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) South Sumatra, the Indonesian Zakat Initiative (IZI) South Sumatra, and Dompet Dhuafa South Sumatra. This research uses qualitative approach with case study research type. The respondents of this research include 3 (three) administrators of zakat management organizations and 3 (three) muzakki. The data used are primary data and secondary data with data validation using source and method triangulation. The data analysis technique uses the Robert K. Yin model, namely the pattern matching analysis technique. The results of the study found that the economic program at the Zakat Management Organization was able to improve the economy of the mustahik. The zakat management organization in managing its zakat is in accordance with the sharia and laws that apply in the area where the zakat management organization is located, and has been in accordance with Maqashid Sharia which consists of protecting religion, protecting the soul, protecting property, protecting the mind, and protecting offspring.
