Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of parental interpersonal communication in shaping children's polite behavior in families of factory workers in Lorok Village. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. The research subjects were 6 people consisting of 2 pairs of parents and 2 children. The data collection techniques used were observation and interviews. The results of interpersonal communication research are seen from the 5 indicators, namely, openness, children have not been open to parents regarding their problems at school or outside school because parents rarely spend time with children so children are reluctant to tell stories. Positive attitude, the attitude of children who respect and do not respect parents appears, children respect because parents always exemplify polite behavior in front of children and children imitate it, children are disrespectful because children play cellphones too often and time with their parents is so little that children get less attention from parents. Attitude of equality, children are less familiar with their parents because they have little time with their parents and children like to talk in a high tone. Empathetic attitude, parents often criticize children rather than understand them and children like to interrupt when parents are talking. Parents' mutual support attitude always supports what their children do in a positive way. Overall, these 5 indicators can shape children's polite behavior towards their parents.
