Abstract

This research is entitled "Representation of Families in the Film Ali dan Ratu Ratu Queens (Semiotic Analysis of Charles Sanders Peirce). The purpose of this research is to find out about the representation of families in the film. In this study the authors took several scenes that show how the family forms represented by the main character named Ali. This research uses descriptive qualitative method, with research data obtained from observations, documentation studies and literature studies. The author uses Charles Sanders Peirce's Semiotics theory and divides the analysis through three trichotomous levels, and classified by nine sign subtypes. The results of the study show that; First, the film Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens depicts family life, where in this family it turns out that there is conflict which causes continuous disputes among its members. Second, with conflicts that have no solution to the problem, it ends up making divisions between family members. Third, it is this division that results in family dysfunction, namely not functioning normally or disrupting a function as it should Key Words: representation, family, semiotics peirce, Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens, dysfunction
