Abstract

This research discusses the rational choices of shopee paylater users in FISIP Sriwijaya University students, the problem in this study is that students use shopee paylater which means owing in advance for the items they buy at shopee, thus their actions and choices are certainly based on reasons. The aim is to find out the rational choices of shopee paylater users and find out why students are interested in using shopee paylater. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological research strategy. This research uses James Coleman's rational choice theory. Data were obtained from 10 main informants and 3 supporting informants through interviews, observation, documentation, and literature study. The results show that the rational choice of FISIP Sriwijaya University students uses shopee paylater because of the complete goods and many discounts offered by the shopee application, it is easier and more practical when buying goods from home, in this case it means that the informant has considered when using shopee paylater as for those who are late in paying because they lend their shopee paylater to someone else and that person is not responsible. Meanwhile, Shopee attracts the attention of FISIP Sriwijaya University students because the items purchased are for daily needs as well as because they fulfill the desires of the items purchased, as for the advantages of using shopee paylater, it is easier and faster.
