Abstract
Background: Stem of yellow wood (Arcangelisia flava) is a plant that are efficacious as an antihyperuricemic. This is because it contains secondary metabolites in the form of alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and tannins. Previous research conducted in vitro research on ethyl acetate extract from stem of the yellow wood (Arcangelisia flava) which has been proven to be antihyperuricemic. This study tested the antihyperuricemic effect of ethyl acetate extract from stem of the yellow wood (Arcangelisia flava) on male white Wistar rats Methods: In vivo experimental research with a randomized prepost-test control group design using male white rats (n = 25) in hyperuricemia conditions divided into 5 groups: negative control (Na-CMC), positive control (Allopurinol), and 3 dose levels of ethyl acetate extract from stem of the yellow wood (Arcangelisia flava), namely 100 mg/kg BW, 200 mg /kg BW, and 400 mg /kg BW. Uric acid levels were measured on the 0th, 4th, and 7th. The uric acid concentration was calculated manually using a formula Results: Giving ethyl acetate extract from stem of the yellow wood (Arcangelisia flava) dose I (100 mg/kg BW), dose II (200 mg/kg BW), and dose III (400 mg/kg BW) for 7 days can reduce serum uric acid levels in rats. Based on statistical analysis, it was found that ethyl acetate extract from stem of the yellow wood (Arcangelisia flava)can reduce uric acid levels by more than 50%. Thus, administering the smallest dose namely dose I (100 mg/kg BW) has the potential to reduce serum uric acid levels. Conclusion: ethyl acetate extract from stem of yellow wood (Arcangelisia flava) can reduce serum uric acid levels in hyperuricemic conditioned wistar male white rats. Keywords: Arcangelisia flava, antihyperuricemic, xanthine oxidase inhibitors, serum uric acid
