Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding Indigofera leaf legumes on dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, and total VFA in vitro. The study was conducted in two stages: the first stage involved a 21 day fermentation, and the second stage was analysis of the digestibility of Hymenachne acutigulma silage using the in vitro method for dry matter digestibility analysis, organic matter digestibility, and total VFA. The research was carried out from August to October 2023 at the Nutrition and Animal Feed Laboratory, Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, University Sriwijaya. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with 4 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments consisted of A0 = 100% Hymenachne acutigulma, A1 = 90% Hymenachne acutigulma + 10% indigofera, A2 = 80% Hymenachne acutigulma + 20% indigofera , A3 = 70% Hymenachne acutigulma + 30% indigofera. The parameters observed were dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility and total VFA. The results showed that treatment with the addition of indigofera leaf legumes had a significant effect (P<0.05) on Dry Matter Digestibility (DMD), Organic Matter Digestibility (OMD) and total VFA. Further tests indicated that the highest level of addition of indigofera leaf legumes in the treatment was in A3, namely DMD = 59.157%, OMD = 62.407% and VFA = 104.659 mM. Therefore, it can be concluded that this research, with the addition of indigofera leaf legumes can increase the value of dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility and total VFA of Hymenachne acutigulma silage in vitro. The addition of indigofera leaf legumes up to 30% was found to have the best influence on increasing the digestibility value of Hymenachne acutigulma silage.
