Abstract

The object of this research was to identify the performance of banana variety Mas in Pulau Gemantung and Tanjung Lubuk Villages as the Central production of Tanjung Lubuk Subdistrict Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The research has been conducted from June 2004 to August 2004 in Pulau Gemantung and Tanjung Lubuk Villages, Tanjung Lubuk Subdistrict of Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. This research was utilized survey method by recording information from the farmers about cultivation of banana variety Mas and also observing and collecting about environment data of banana Central production, namely Pulau Gemantung and Tanjung Lubuk Villages, Tanjung Lubuk Subdistrict of Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The sampled location was determined intentionally (purposive sampling) based on the population size, production and economic value of banana in the location. There’s only one farmer whose land was used as source of sample plant in each village, where each land of the farmer was about 5 ha. The results showed that there were three kinds of banana variety Mas in Pulau Gemantung and Tanjung Lubuk Villages as the Central production of Tanjung Lubuk Subdistrict Ogan Komering Ilir Regency namely banana Mas Telor, variety Mas and variety Mas Putri. The performance of banana variety Mas in both locations showed the difference on quantitative characteristics especially on leaf number, sapling number, the stemweight and the number of bunches per stem. The observation to qualitative characteristics (stem color, leaf stalk color, leave color, fruit shape and fruit skin color) to each sample of banana in research locations also showed differences of the performance of banana variety Mas.
