Abstract

The objective of the research is to design open space at the administrative building Agricultural Faculty by using of Japanese gardens. The research was carried out in the yard of the building of the Agricultural Faculty, University of Sriwijaya from Februari 2012 to April 2012. The methods of the research was observation and interview in several steps starting from inventarisation, synthesis, analysis, and design concept. Preparation of the plan by using the concept of Japanese garden. Planning begins with an inventory of existing and conducted interviews with relevant academic community includes lectures and students included staff perceptions and advices for the preparation of the plan. The results of this research is final draft of the design which also evaluated by academic community. The final draft was made in the form of three dimensional visual using Sketch Up program. The results showed that the total respondents taken from each population value good responds and positive expressions on the design of Japanese garden around the yard of the Dekanat Building Agricultural Faculty. The design was dominated by Acalypha macrophylla as Symbol of Japanese gardens.
