Abstract

Gastropods and bivalves are one of the most commonly found potential marine biota and are bioactive compounds that have not been widely studied. The presence of toxicity activity in marine biota can be developed further and be useful for the food and pharmacology industries. Species of gastropod (L. lambis) and bivalve (T. squamosa) found in the waters of Enggano Island, North Bengkulu are quite abundant so that abundance of marine biota has the potential to be used as medicinal ingredients. The purpose of this research was to analyze the level of toxicity using multilevel extraction with 96% ethanol solvent and analyze chemical components through the results of phytochemical analysis and GC-MS. This research was carried out from September to December 2023. Samples of gastropods (L. lambis) and bivalves (T. squamosa) were macerated using ethanol, the macerate was concentrated using a rotary evaporator to obtain a thick extract. The extract was tested for toxicity using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method with concentrations of 1000 μg/mL, 500 μg/mL, 250 μg/mL, 100 μg/mL, 50 μg/mL, and 0 μg/mL (control), then observed for 24 hours. Next, secondary metabolite analysis was carried out using qualitative analysis through phytochemical test and quantitative analysis through GC-MS tests. The toxicity test showed an lc50 of 639,52 μg/mL in gastropod (L. lambis) extract and 706,53 μg/mL in bivalve (T. squamosa) extract, so it was in the wea toxic category. Based on the result of phytochemical and GC-MS test, both extracts show that they contain alkaloids, steroids, and triterpenoid compounds.
