Abstract

Background: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a sub-type of stroke that occurs due to the formation of a hematoma in the brain parenchyma with or without expansion of blood into the ventricles. Non-traumatic ICH accounts for 10-15% of all strokes and is associated with high morbidity and mortality (Ziai & Carhuapoma, 2018). Hemodynamic instability can be an indication of cardiovascular problems experienced by stroke patients. One alternative method that has the potential to help stabilize hemodynamics is acupressure therapy at Taichong Point using lemongrass oil. Objective: To implement nursing care for ICH patients with acupressure intervention at Taichong Point using lemongrass oil. Method: The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a case study approach. Results: The most important nursing problem in the five cases of patients managed was a decrease in intracranial adaptive capacity. Hemodynamic monitoring until the second day of the five patients who underwent acupressure intervention at Taichong Point using lemongrass oil for 10-15 minutes showed an increase in blood pressure and pulse. Monitoring 30 minutes after the intervention showed that three patients (Mr. I, Mr. B, and Mrs. E) experienced a decrease in blood pressure and pulse, while two patients (Mr. M and Mr. H) experienced an increase in blood pressure and pulse. Conclusion: Acupressure at the Taichong point can provide hemodynamic benefits in patients with higher GCS to avoid agitated reactions when acupressure is applied. Patients with lower GCS may require additional or intensive approaches to achieve similar improvements. Further studies are needed to confirm these findings and develop better protocols for the application of acupressure in the care of emergency and critical care patients.
