Abstract

Ruminants are livestock that consume forage to provide crude fiber as an energy source such as grass, and legumes. Pakchong grass is a forage that is able to meet the crude fiber needs of ruminant livestock. Annual Pakchong grass production can reach 250-270 tons/ha and the crude protein content reaches 16-18%. Feed digestibility is an important indicator as a guide to determining the amount of feed nutrients that can be absorbed by the digestive tract, so it needs to be optimized. Saccharomyces cerevisiae was chosen because of its ability to reduce the risk of sub-acute rumination acidosis (SARA), help rumen development and increase fiber digestibility. This research aims to find out quality of digestibility of Pakchong grass with the addition of in vitro Saccharomyes cerevisiae probiotic supplementation in beef cattle. This research was carried out from October 2023 to January 2024 at the Animal Nutrition and Feed Laboratory, Department of Animal Technology and Industry, Animal Husbandry Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research design used in this study was to use the T Test Analysis method which consisted of 2 treatments and 10 replications with the addition of Saccharomyes cerevisiae to Pakchong grass, namely: P0 (Pakchong grass), P1 (Addition of 0.05% Saccharomyes cerevisiae Pakchong grass). The parameters observed were gas production rate, pH, dry matter digestibility, VFA, N-ammonia. The results of this research show that treatment with the addition of Saccharomyes cerevisiae to Pakchong grass can increase gas production rate (3.08 mL/hour), pH (6), dry matter digestibility (45.35%), VFA (168 mM), N- ammonia (1.93 Mm), compared with the control treatment on the digestibility of beef cattle.
