Abstract

The aim of this studywas to determine problem solving ability of students in solving the narrative questions of social arithmetic material. This study was descriptive study with 31 students of VIII D class at Junior High School Number 1 Indralaya Utara as the subject. The narrative questions of social arithmetic material and interview were used in this study as the data collection technique to obtain the accurate data about the student’s problem solving ability in solving the narrative questions. According to the results of research, it’s obtained that the problem solving ability of students in solving the narrative questions of social arithmetic material are categorized as bad with an average is 28.65. Students who have problem solving ability with enough categories are 12.90%, which are as many as 4 students. Students who have problem solving ability with bad categories are 64.52%, which are as many as 20 students. Students who have problem solving ability with very bad categories are 22.58%, which are as many as 7 students.
