Abstract

Allergy is a hypersensitivity reaction initiated by a mechanism immunologic, which is induced by specific IgE to a particular allergen, which is related to mast cells. Risk factors and allergic triggers can caused by history of parental allergies, exclusive breastfeeding, smoke exposure, history of deliver, history of antibiotic use, allergen exposure, and animal exposure. This study aims to determine what are the factors associated with the incidence of allergies in infants. Sample in this research is a child aged under five who gets medical check-up at Polyclinic Puskesmas Kampus Palembang and Children Polyclinic RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang which held in January of 2018. The design of this research uses an analytical observational design with cross sectional approach. Bivariate analysis in this study using chi square test. The used sampling technique is non probability sampling using consecutive sampling method. Bivariate analysis on This study used chi square test with 95% confidence level. The result of Chi square test using continuity correction indicates a significant relation amongst allergic events on the history of allergic parents (p = 0,032), exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0,032), smoke exposure (p = 0,007), history labor (p = 0,031), history of antibiotic use (p = 0,031), exposure of allergen (p = 0.041), and animal exposure (p = 0.008) against allergic cases.The conclusion of this study, there are relations amongst the history of allergic parents, breastfeeding exclusive, exposure to cigarette smoke, birth history, history of antibiotic use, exposure to allergens and animal exposure to allergic cases, the study was on Researchers are further advised to examine the duration of allergen exposure factors against the onset of allergies
