Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the concentration of banana’s peel flour as prebiotic on probiotic application for water quality, survival rate, and growth of catfish fry (Pangasius sp.). This research was conducted from August to September 2016 in Kolam Percobaan Budidaya Perairan, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya, Indralaya. Water quality (ammonia and turbidity) was analyzed in Balai Teknik Kesehatan Lingkungan dan Pengendalian Penyakit (BTKLPP), Palembang. Research method was using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications of banana peels flour. The concentration of banana’s peel flour were P1 = 0.78 g.L , P2 = 1.28 g.L'1, P3 = 1.78 g.L'1, P4 = 2.28 g.L'1. Probiotic that used was probiotic commercial (EM-4) with concentration 10 pl/L. Catfish was reared for 21 day with stocking density 1 ind/2 liters. Data (water quality, survival rate, absolute growth, and Feed Convertion Ratio) was analyzed by analysis of variance (F test) significantly at 95% and least significant difference (LSD). The result showed that the addition of banana’s peel flour on media with concentration 1.28 g.L'1 (P2) had the water quality better than other treatments (P0,P1,P3 and P4) (ammonia 0.12 mg.L'1, dissolved oxygen 3.69 mg.L'1, turbidity 31.27 NTU, pH 5.20 and temperature 29.07°C), the highest survival rate (97.33%), and the highest absolute growth of lenght and weight (3.54 cm and 4.88 g).
