Abstract

Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) is a psychological phenomenon where individuals feel worried or anxious about missing out on important information or experiences that others are having, often exacerbated by social media use. This study aims to analyze the contribution of social media usage intensity to Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) behavior among Guidance and Counseling students at Sriwijaya University, class of 2021 and 2022. The method used in this research simple linear regression test. The population consisted of 124 students from the Guidance and Counseling program at Sriwijaya University, class of 2021 and 2022, with a sample size of 55 students determined using simple random sampling. Data collection was conducted using a Likert scale distributed via Google Forms. Results showed that 38% of students have a moderate level of FOMO, while 47% have a moderate intensity of social media use. Normality and linearity tests indicated that the data were normally distributed and linear. simple linear regression test analysis showed a significant contribution of social media usage intensity to FOMO, with an influence of 33%. The findings indicate that students use social media at a moderate frequency and experience FOMO at a moderate level.
