Abstract
Heat exchanger is a device used to heat exchanger fluid from a fluid to another through a solid surface due to the temperature difference. The process of heat transfer can be done directly and indirectly. Direct heat exchanger, is a fluid that has a higher temperature (heat) will be mixed directly with a fluid that has a lower temperature (cold) in a vessel or room. Meanwhile, heat exchanger indirect, is not related to the hot fluid to cold fluid directly but through an intermediary in the form of solid media. Each surface has a higher temperature (hotter) than the surrounding temperature will experience the heat release (heat loss), thereby increasing the environmental temperature becomes higher. The amount of heat loss depends on many factors, but the surface temperature and its size is the dominant factor. To reduce the heat transfer is used thermal insulator. By providing an insulating layer (insulation) on a hot surface will reduce overall surface temperature. This study aims to determine how much influence the thickness of the insulator against heat rate and a decrease in temperature at the surface of the biomass fumace using plywood insulator with a thickness of 3 mm, 6 mm and 9 mm.
