Abstract
The purpose of this research was to formulate solid soap made from seaweed Eucheuma cottonii that has antiseptic properties and also to find out it’s chemical compound. This research was conducted from July to March 2016. This research used randomized block design with one by factor, the addition of seaweed’s extract (0 ppm, 250 ppm, 500 ppm and 750 ppm). The steps taken included sample preparation and extraction, antiseptic foam making, physicchemical test (water content, pH, alkali-free, foam stability and hardness) and antibacterial test. The result showed the additional of seaweed’s extract Eucheuma cottonii have significant effect on alkali-free, foam stability, and hardness, except water content and pH. Alkali-free value was 0.05%-0.5%, foam stability 42.77%- 74.42%, hardness 102.10%-353.40%, water content 20.03%-27.62% and ph 11.22%-11.57%. antibacterial activity test showed the diameter of inhibition of seaweed’s extract soap was 11.08 mm - 17.15 mm and classified on strong antibacterial activity (>11 mm), while the diametter of inhibition of seaweed’s extract Eucheuma cottonii was 0 mm - 12.26 mm.
