Abstract
A doctor's career encompasses various paths, including clinical, non-clinical, and non-medical roles. This diversity impacts the unequal distribution of the medical profession both nationally and internationally. This study aims to identify the preferences and factors influencing general medical graduates in determining their further education and career paths, specifically at the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University. This research is descriptive research using primary data obtained online through google forms among general medical graduates of the faculty of medicine, Sriwijaya University. In this study, out of 310 respondents, the majority of young doctors and internship doctors preferred pursuing further education in medical specialties (83.2%). Most graduates were interested in clinical careers (86.5%), with young doctors predominantly choosing Pediatrics (12.1%), while internship doctors tended toward Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry, and Surgery (7.6% each). The main factors considered were future career prospects (64.5%) and educational experiences (47.1%), while social support was less prioritized (38.4%). Most graduates of the general medicine program at the faculty of medicine, sriwijaya university choose to pursue further education and carrer as clinicians, specifially in the fields of pediatrics, general surgery, obstetric gynecology, and internal medicine, which are the top four career preferences. With the factor career prospects and educational experience chosen as the main consideration factors.
