Abstract

Dragon fruit skin contains antioxidant compounds that are good for the lips such as flavonoids and betacyanins. Virgin coconut oil (VCO) is a form of oil phase containing lauric and caprylic acids that can moisturize the lips. The study aims to obtain a dragon fruit skin extract lip balm formulation with variations of virgin coconut oil in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard. The results of dragon fruit skin maceration using 70% ethanol solvent and obtained dragon fruit skin extract of 9.28%. While VCO, made enzymatically using the papain enzyme. The VCO yield was 29.5%. VCO testing in the form of water content, free fatty acid content, iodine number content, peroxide number content and specific gravity all met the criteria of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). Lip balm preparations were made by varying VCO and dragon fruit skin extract in three formulas. Physical tests of lip balm preparations were observed by pH tests, homogeneity tests, spreadability tests, hedonic tests. The test results of the three formulas were only formulation 3 which did not meet the requirements of the SNI lip balm provisions. In the hedonic test, the third formula with a concentration of 10% dragon fruit skin extract and 47% VCO had a high preference value in terms of aroma, color and texture.
