Abstract

MUHAMMAD ROBBY SAPUTRA. Effectiveness of Using Different Materials in Under-Gravel Filter Systems in Rearing Fingerlings Kissing Gourami (Helostoma temminckii) (Supervised by MIRNA FITRANI). The quality of water in ponds is crucial for the growth and survival of fish. If the farming environment is not maintained correctly, leftover food and waste products can lower water quality, putting the fish at risk. During maintenance in controlled containers, residual feed, and metabolic products can cause a decrease in water quality, lowering the possibility of fish survival. Efforts can be made to optimize water quality management using a recirculation system and an undergravel filter made from natural materials. The research was conducted at the Aquaculture Laboratory and Experimental Pond, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications: P0 (sedimentary sand), P1 (palm fiber), P2 (bagasse), and P3 (wood fiber). The results showed that P2 (bagasse) was the most effective treatment in maintaining water quality, with pH levels of 6.73-6.98, dissolved oxygen levels of 5.03-5.83 mg L-1, ammonia levels of 0.028-0.045 mg L-1 , and turbidity levels of 0.67-1.64 NTU, nitrate level 1.64-3.60 mg L-1 . The kissing gourami raised with the P2 treatment showed a length growth of 1.25 cm, weight growth of 0.89 g, feed efficiency of 26.64%, and survival rate of 98.15%. Therefore, the bagasse treatment (P2) was the most effective filter material for the under-gravel filter system in kissing gourami farming. Pengelolaan kualitas air yang baik menjadi salah satu faktor penting untuk mendukung peningkatan kelangsungan hidup dan pertumbuhan ikan tambakan. Selama pemeliharaan dalam wadah terkontrol, sisa pakan dan hasil metabolisme dapat menyebabkan penurunan kualitas air sehingga kemungkinan ikan untuk bertahan hidup ikan lebih rendah. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah dengan optimalisasi pengelolaan kualitas air menggunakan sistem resirkulasi, under-gravel filter berbahan alami. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas penggunaan bahan filter alternatif yaitu; pasir malang, ampas tebu, ijuk dan serabut kayu dalam sistem under-gravel filter pada pemeliharaan ikan tambakan (Helostoma temminckii). Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Budidaya Perairan dan Kolam Percobaan, Program Studi Budidaya Perairan, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sriwijaya. Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL), yang terdiri dari 4 perlakuan dengan 3 kali ulangan yaitu P0 (under-gravel filter berbahan pasir malang), P1 (under-gravel filter berbahan ijuk, P2 (undergravel filter berbahan ampas tebu) dan P3 (under-gravel filter berbahan serabut kayu) digunakan dalam riset ini. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa P2 merupakan perlakuan terbaik dengan kualitas air yang diperoleh yaitu; pH 6,73- 6,98, oksigen terlarut 5,03-5,83 mg L-1 , amonia 0,028-0,045 mg L-1 , kekeruhan 0,67-1,64 NTU, nitrat 1,64-3,60 mg L-1 . Adapun pertumbuhan panjang mutlak benih ikan tambakan yang dihasilkan adalah 1,25 cm, pertumbuhan bobot mutlak 0,89 g, efisiensi pakan 26,64% dan kelangsungan hidup 98,15%. Oleh karena itu, perlakuan ampas tebu (P2) merupakan bahan penyuaring paling efektif untuk sistem under-gravel filter pada pemeliharaan benih ikan tambakan.
