Abstract

Pengumbuk is an area that still faces diarrhea problems, especially in children with an age range of 7-12 years. Diarrhea data from the Pengumbuk Health Center stated that diarrhea cases in Pengumbuk increased by 6 cases from 2022 (114 cases) to 2023 (120 cases). This may be caused by the habit of consuming snacks without knowing their quality and children's lack of understanding of personal hygiene. This study aims to analyze the relationship between snack food consumption behavior and personal hygiene with the incidence of diarrhea in children with an age range of 7-12 years in Pengumbuk. This quantitative research uses questionnaires and interviews with a cross-sectional design. The determination of the research sample used a purposive sampling technique with a sample of 100 respondents. Data analysis was carried out by chi-square test or fisher exact test and multiple logistic regression using statistical applications. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between the frequency of snack consumption and diarrhea (p-value= 0.045) with a PR (95%CI) of 1,600 (1,030-2,510) while the choice of snack consumption, bowel movements, peer influence, hand washing behavior and nail cutting habits had no relationship with diarrhea. A multivariate analysis identified the frequency of snack consumption as the dominant factor against diarrhea in children aged 7-12 years in Pengumbuk (p=0.048; PR 0.414 (95%CI 0.173-0.991). It was concluded that the frequency of snack consumption is the dominant factor related to diarrhea. It is recommended that children be more selective and reduce the consumption of snacks that are not guaranteed quality.
