Abstract

Instagram became a popular social media, especially for non-governmental organizations in carrying out their missions. One of them was Mongabay, which was famous for its nature conservation news portal. Along with the development of technology, Mongabay utilized Instagram for spreading environmental issues. Through the content presented, it was expected to reach many audiences and could have a positive impact. This study aimed to determine the effect of Mongabay's Instagram content on the environmental awareness of followers of the @mongabay.id account. The theory used in this study was the uses and effect theory by Sven Windahl. The method used in this study was quantitative descriptive. The data in this study were obtained through the distribution of questionnaires with a sample of 100 respondents who were followers of the Instagram account @mongabay.id. The results of this study indicated that Mongabay's Instagram content had an effect on the environmental awareness of followers by 34.5% and correlation between the two of 0.587, which meant a fairly strong correlation with a positive relationship. In simple linear regression analysis, there was an influence of variable X on variable Y with a significance value of <0.001. In the t-test, the calculated t value > t table, namely 7.182 > 1.984, so it meant that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected.
