Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence technology, such as Chat GPT, has significantly impacted various aspects of education, including student academic integrity. The improper use of such technology has the potential to undermine core values of academic honesty. This prompted the researcher to conduct a study aimed at examining the influence of Chat GPT usage on the academic integrity of students in the Economics Education Program, class of 2024. This study employed a quantitative associative method with a population consisting of all Economics Education students from the class of 2021 to 2024, across both the Palembang and Indralaya campuses. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, focusing on students who were identified as the most frequent user of Chat GPT specifically, the class of 2024, with a total of 92 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed via Google Form and interviews, both of which were tested for validity and reliability beforehand. Before hypothesis testing, a normality test was conducted, and the data were found to be normally distributed. The results of hypothesis testing show that t count is 10.01 > t tabel 1.986, with a coefficient of determination of 99.99%, indicating that Chat GPT usage has a significant effect on academic integrity. Therefore, it is necessary to implement supervision and education regarding the ethical use of Chat GPT to ensure it can be utilized without compromising the values of academic honesty
