Abstract

The achievement of productivity in overburden removal activities in coal mining is greatly influenced by the productivity of mechanical equipment, one of which is the excavator. The factors that contribute to productivity are the characteristics of the overburden material to be stripped. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of overburden material in two different fleets and analyze its effect on backhoe productivity. The research method include literature review, collection of primary data such as cycle time, and secondary data such as material characteristics, UCS values, bucket fill factor, and swell factor. The analysis was conducted quantitatively using productivity calculations. The results showed that claystone 2, with a depth of 27,46 – 27,97 m, has a texture ranging from dense to compact, with gray or brown clay particles and a UCS value of 1,67 MPa. Meanwhile, the material in fleet 2 is claystone 3 with a depth of 29,07 – 33,51 m, which has a dense and strong texture, often forming massive rock masses, gray to dark gray in color, and has a UCS value of 1,83 MPa. Additionally, the characteristics of overburden material, such as strength, influence backhoe productivity, particulary in terms of cycle time, bucket fill factor, and swell factor. Fleet 1, with easier to dig materials, achieved productivity of up to 1045, while fleet 2 did not meet the productivity target, achieving only 91%.
