Abstract

The rising energy prices cause the processing of clean water cost a lot. On the other hand membrane technology is currently growing rapidly, this is due to its strategic use in the process of separation and not too much energy. This research methodology begins by searching, studying and understanding the Iiterature studies in the form of existing scientific joumals or papers to obtain a new Ieaming from previous research. In the manufacture of this membrane using polyacrylonitrile polymers in the form of particles and solvents using N, N Dimethylformamide is mixed. In membrane manufacture using three fractions of the composition that is 20%, 22.5%, and 25% and using the method of flat sheet printing to print polyacrylonitrile membrane. Then followed by some preparation of collecting test material such as polyacrylonitrile polymer and N, N Dimethylformamide, after obtaining the test material then made the membrane making the process at each ffaction, then stirred by using magnetic stirrer until mixture looks homogeneous. To know the mechanical and morphological properties of the membrane then do tensile testing and Scanning Electron Microscope examination. For tensile testing of membrane samples three samples were used in each composition fraction, so the total number was nine samples. Tensile test on each sample using Tensing Tearing Strenght Tester tensile test apparatus. In the microstructure testing using the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) tool used to view pore size, void, fiber density, and pore bonding on membrane layers. The results of several membrane tests are incorporated into tables and graphs for tensile testing and form membrane morphological images for microstructure testing. Keywords : Polymer, Polyacrylonitrile, N, N Dimethylformamide, tensile testing, microstructure inspection, water filter membrane, void.
