Abstract

This study described the violation and the purpose of doing the violation of the principle cooperation in the drama script Anu by Putu Wijaya. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The source of data in this study is the manuscript of Anu by Putu Wijaya. This study used content analysis technique to analysis the data. This study showed that drama script of Anu by Putu Wijaya used all types of violations of the principle cooperation is the maxim of quantity as many as 15 utterances, the maxim of quality as many as 12 utterances, the maxim of relevance as many as 13 utterances, and the maxim of manner as many as 19 utterances. There was 59 utterances that describe violations of the principle cooperation. The most used violations of the principle cooperation were the violations of the maxim of manner that is found as many as 19 utterances. The results of this study can be implicated in Indonesian language learning in the 9th Junior High School, especially in the discussion material.
