Abstract

Cervical cancer is a global problem related to non-communicable diseases that can cause pain and death in women. Cervical cancer patients generally experience complaints of fatigue due to cancer and the treatment they undergo is chemotherapy that can affect quality of life. One form of application of palliative care with quality of life as a priority treatment for patients with chronic diseases such as cervical cancer is Relaxation Breathing Exsercise. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Relaxation Breathing Exsercise on fatigue of cervical cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This type of research is quantitative with pre-experimental classification of two groups pretest and posttest design. The sample of this study were 26 cervical cancer respondents who underwent chemotherapy were taken by purposive sampling technique. The results of the analysis of the fatigue scale of the intervention group using the Wilcoxon test showed Relaxation Breathing Exsercise can reduce fatigue with p-value = 0.001 and the control group uses paired t-dependent test p-value = 0.0002. The difference between the fatigue level of the intervention group and the control group using the mann whitney p-value test = 0.000 is a significant comparison. Relaxation Breathing Exsercise will stimulate the parasintatic nervous system thereby increasing endorphins production, decreasing heart rate, increasing lung expansion so that it can develop optimally and muscles become relaxed. This mechanism can overcome fatigue of cervical cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Relaxation Breathing Exsercise can be used as an independent intervention, especially palliative care for cervical cancer patients to adapt to complaints of fatigue.
