Abstract
The population in Indonesia is increasing in number so as to make their homes expand. The more widespread the population of residence, the further away from the power plant. For this reason, a protection system is needed to protect the distribution of electrical energy from generators to residential areas. One protection that can be used is the distance relay. The principle behind distance relays is based on the use of measured voltage and current values to calculate the visible impedance from the relay point. To make the relay work properly, a good setting is needed too. In calculating the settings using the calculation method provided in the user guide. This research was conducted at the Kenten Substation. The results obtained setting Z1 = 3.16 Ω, Z2 = 6.37 Ω and Z3 = 10.77 Ω. For the installed settings are good, it can be seen from the interference data obtained, namely trip interference between Zone 2 and Zone 3 with the results of the calculation of impedance of 11.5 Ω and 11.6 Ω after the impedance calculation results seen relay namely Zone 2 = 8.28 Ω and Zone 3 = 13.99 Ω.
